We have our first Recognised FS Provider in Tyne and Wear! Congratulations to Scotswood Natural Community Garden based in the Scotswood and Benwell areas of Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

Scotswood Natural Community Garden was established in 1995 on the site of a school playing field at what is now part of Newcastle College’s facilities at the John Marley Centre. The garden covers somewhere between two and three acres. Like all good gardens, Scotswood is a mix of different parts. Three ponds attract a variety of wildlife and are home to frogs, toads, and three species of newt; including the rare Great-crested Newt. They offer educational and training programmes as well as youth work projects and volunteering opportunities.

Harriet Menter, Scotswood’s Level 3 practitioner, had the following to say: “We are delighted to receive this recognition from the Forest School Association after a robust assessment process. This recognises the high quality of the forest school provision we provide here at Scotswood Natural Community Garden and lets our partners know that we meet all 6 of the Forest School Principles.”
