Title: ‘The Natural Connections Project – emerging findings one year on’
Ian Blackwell, Natural Connections Project Manager [Delivery] & Martin Gilchrist, Natural Connections Research Assistant
The National Connections Demonstration Project is one of the largest outdoor learning projects in the UK. Funded by DEFRA, Natural England and English Heritage, and managed by the Institute of Education at Plymouth University, this 3.5 year programme seeks to engage 200 schools [primary, secondary and special schools] from across the south west in learning in the natural environment [LINE]. NCDP began about a year ago, with the first Hub Leaders recruited in January this year and schools signing up from spring 2013 onwards. Although this is relatively still an early stage of the Demonstration Project, the Natural Connections team have begun to collect and analyse school and provider data. This session will be an opportunity for you to get an update on progress in the region and also to hear about the initial evaluation findings from this major outdoor learning project. There will also be an opportunity to network and nibble a mince pie.

This is part of the OELRES network – outdoor experiential learning research. It is open to all researchers and those in higher education or practice. There are talks all round the year (in Plymouth / Devon usually) and an annual conference. http://www.oelres.net/
