Position: Survival Lead Mission Facilitator
Job Description: Lead Facilitators are the heart and soul of the camp experience we offer children and families. You will be at the front line of engaging campers in the outdoors in a high energy, creative and exciting way. If you have a background in bush-craft and outdoor survival, have robust experience in workshop leadership and enjoy working with young people, join us!
Other Requirements: Ideally, you’ll have formal qualifications in Bush-craft, Wilderness Survival or Outdoor Education. You may be a full time Bush-craft Freelancer, Instructor for an outdoor education provider or seasoned Forest School practitioner. To work at The Hive, you will also need extensive experience and several years of practice both in your chosen field and in working with school age children.
You will need to be comfortable with leading a facilitating team of up to 3 people, with the support of your Camp Director. You will also need to be comfortable both with our scenario-led approach and the appropriate use of technology as a support for engagement and learning.
Responsibilities:
• Lead your mission and empower children to succeed, drawing on playfulness, energy, and charisma.
• Lead, motivate and collaborate with your team of up to 3 facilitators.
• Follow the Hive mission approach and ensure your team does too.
• Provide leadership and keep a high level of positive energy as the Lead Facilitator .
• Use mobile technology as required in your mission as a support to learning and your delivery.
• Ensure you and your team supervises campers at all times, protecting their safety, discipline and making sure that they are engaged and enjoying themselves.
• Lead by example in terms of tidiness and respectful behaviour.
• Supervise lunch and snack times with the support of your team.
• Take responsibility for the equipment, props and technology you will be provided with.
• Take responsibility for keeping your space sufficiently tidy and help clean up at the end of the day.
• Make sure you and your team are aware of special needs of campers and make sure those are attended to.
This role is available at the following location: Eltham College in South East London
Monday 1st August – Friday 5th August 2016 (non-residential)
Time requirements and working hours:
Before camp: Two training days: one induction day and one mission training day
During camp: 8.30am – 5.30pm / Monday to Thursday & 8.30am – 6pm / Friday to help pack-up
After camp: You may be required to attend a half day debrief and evaluation following camp
Remuneration:
Facilitation days are paid at a rate of £135 per day
Training days are paid at a rate of £80 per day

Profile and Experience:
• Formal qualifications in Bushcraft, Wilderness Survival or Outdoor Education
• A high energy and playful outlook with an instinctive understanding of what motivates children
• A strong interest in hands-on experiential education
• Proven ability to work as part of a team.
• Experience of using tablet and mobile technology and preferably with children
• A valid DBS Certificate – this will be required PRIOR to job offer
• A valid First Aid Certificate – Paediatric First Aid is desirable
• Excellent organisational skills
• Punctuality is a must
