Job description: Volunteer Forest School Assistant. This is a short term volunteering opportunity for Spring Availability. Two introduction days in last week of May (these can be arranged to suit) Forest School Half Term Taster Sessions Wednesday 30th May 10:00-12:00 and Thursday 31st May 13:00-15:30
Overview: If you are looking for experience in a Forest School setting or are thinking of taking a Forest School qualification, or are a retired education professional, this opportunity would be perfect for you. Forest School is based on a child led approach enabling them to learn a range of skills in a woodland setting. Activities include mini-beast hunting, pond dipping, building structures and dens, creating art work and much more. You will be given an introduction to the Forest School approach and how to support the Forest School practitioner and the group.The role will be responsive to the needs of the session being run on the day.
Duties: To support the Forest School Leader, working with a group of 10 children aged between 6 and 9 years Help in setting up, running and clearing away of equipment Help in the assessment and management of health and safety To add and contribute ideas to the content of sessions Personal attributes needed:
Essential:
- Be over 18 years old
- Have a desire to learn about the Forest School ethos.
- Be enthusiastic and happy to work outside in all types of weather.
- Have good communication skills
Preferred:
- Have a clear, current DBS check and experience of working with children.
- Have experience in a wildlife/rural working environment
