Any other information: The Hive is an exciting new company running Outdoor Missions for children 6-14. The company was set up in 2013 and following a successful first year we are looking to scale up our activities.
As far as we know, The Hive is unique in the UK in bringing together high quality outdoor learning, gameplay and mobile technology. Each mission is story-based and revolves around an outdoors challenge that the children complete by undertaking activities and games, drawn from a range of outdoor disciplines, including bushcraft, orienteering, gardening, geocaching, potion making, foraging, whittling, raft building, bee keeping, nature forensics, water works, animal identification, tracking, map reading, etc.
Mobile technology (iPods) is threaded into the mission games and activities. Mobile activities are wide ranging and can include anything from experiencing AR in games, using bespoke maps for geocaching, reading QR codes to make up soil recipes, shooting an iMovie nature newsflash, following video instructions to build a mini raft, taking selfies to follow a nature hunt, using a range of nature-related apps, creating an outdoor animation film, etc.
