Good Forest School should help to develop school grounds. I run Forest School in areas which are from ideal, but as part of the process, I work with schools and their students to implement small scale planting schemes of native shrubs and occasional trees. These can then be managed in a straightforward way over time to develop into rich and diverse habitats.
One of my most recent schemes only took place because the school headteacher is keen to invest in Forest School over the long-term.
This is a Forest School centred approach. However, these areas provide all sorts of opportunities to link into the National Curriculum or EYFS as they develop and mature.
