The Co-operative Childcare Forest School recognised for good Forest School practice.

The Co-operative Childcare Forest School in West Midlands is celebrating becoming a ‘Recognised Forest School Provider’ after receiving the accreditation from the Forest School Association (FSA).

The Forest School is used by five Co-operative Childcare nurseries across the West Midlands, as well as several local primary schools. It offers children the opportunity to develop self-confidence and esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland setting. The specialised learning concept has roots reaching back to early years pioneers in outdoor learning in Scandinavia.

Wendi Botterill, Level 3 Forest School Leader at The Co-operative Childcare, said: “I have 18 years’ experience working as a Forest School Leader and have witnessed the benefits of this scheme first hand. I’m therefore so proud that we’ve achieved this accreditation. We believe strongly in the added value that our Forest School brings to the children’s learning and the opportunities it provides them to grow as confident and independent individuals. The children visit the woodland for a whole day once a week over a two-year period and all of our staff are on board with the benefits that forest school provides.”
