Good, clear useful article for educational settings – really like the way it emphasises that you don’t need a FS qualification to start taking children outdoors, and that FS training shouldn’t be the first port of call in developing outdoor learning.
A bit of disambiguation – “If you want to get out into the woods on a regular basis, delving into a lot more of the practical stuff and actually building your own classroom outdoors, then train up a forest school leader,”. I asked Jon – this doesn’t mean building a physical ‘outdoor classroom’ – this is Ian Macmillan and Margaret MAcmillan’s metaphorical outdoor classroom – ie exploring the outdoors as an alternative space to indoor learning environments. (Maybe I was alone in being confused!)
