The debate about risk and outdoor play and learning has moved on in recent years, with Forest School at the forefront of a more risk-positive ethos. Yet anxieties and unanswered questions remain. Does fear of litigation undermine the learning experiences we offer? Are standard risk assessments really helping educators make sound plans and good judgements? At a more fundamental level, how well-grounded is the underlying pedagogy?

Tim’s webinar will revisit his influential book No Fear: Growing up in a risk-averse society, which helped to build the case for a balanced, thoughtful approach to risk. He will invite his audience to place their practice in a wider social and environmental context, embrace critical thinking, and share lessons and insights from policies and procedures.

This ‘In the Thicket Webinar’, is a topical presentation with an expert and a short Q and A session at the end.

Tim Gill is an independent scholar, writer and consultant on childhood, and a global advocate for children’s play and mobility.
